A Fairly Nice Day

Amazingly enough we had a little sun today and the temperature is 57 degrees. We went for a walk and then Alexa played outside for a while with her ball.


The less happy news is that I have to have a root canal at 7:30 am tomorrow. I hate going to the dentist and I hate root canals. I had a really mean oral surgeon do my first root canal about 5 years ago and it hurt for some reason. He left me sitting alone in the room for about 15 minutes with it hurting and when he cam back he rudely commented "What are you crying about?" I also had one dentist accidently poke me in the nerve with the needle while trying to numb my mouth. Now that was just an accident and not evidence of incompetence, but it added to my already significant dentist anxiety. So now I avoid the dentist until my teeth are so messed up that I have to have root canals. Again, I know this is shooting myself in the foot behavior, but I can't seem to overcome it. Anyway, the dentist today was really nice and I explained to him why I didn't come see someone earlier and he was very kind about pointing out that a little preventative dental care would hopefully preclude future root canals. I will give it another try, but it is hard to overcome fear with logic somehow.
Here is another video of Alexa. I admit it isn't that fascinating if you aren't her mother, but I am sure I will someday be glad to have these little everyday moments captured.

So just so you all know - DH is for Dear Husband. I think the Flylady is the one who started that one-I just stole it. My DH of course is David Herbert, so that works too.
I finally am going to the dentist tomorrow. The tooth that has had a hole in it for months finally broke a piece off Saturday and another one today. I now have about half a tooth. Don't know what they will do about that. Guess I'll find out tomorrow morning.

Lenore has finished high school!

There was a nice graduation party for Lenore last night. Unfortunately many of my pictures were blurry, but since I was the only photographer I guess they are better than nothing.

Alexa's new trampoline

We got a trampoline for Alexa. One of the skills she needs to learn is how to jump. (Also how to run) The physical therapist at her school recommended a trampoline. She doesn't use it a lot yet, but does seem to like it.
You may have noticed that I am now getting pictures of Alexa with her eyes open. My new camera has a special ISO setting which allows me to take photos in low light without flash, so no more red eye prevention and Alexa keeps her eyes open.

Those 4:30 blues

I don't know if the "blues" is exactly what I would call it. But about 4:30 in the afternoon is when it seems like I always get overwhelmed. I am sure it has something to do with some sort of internal clock, but that doesn't really help me fix it. At this time of day, I start to be impatient with Alexa, frustrated with the messy condition of my house, my body feels achy and I am really restless. I start counting the minutes until DH gets home. This is the time of day when Alexa has leaky diapers, I spill stuff, and I feel like a really inadequate mother.
I trimmed Alexa's hair last night. She has started pulling her rubber bands out and after I did her hair about six times yesterday and she pulled it out again I couldn't take it anymore. It is always in her mouth, in her eyes, in her food and snotty. It is hard enough to comb the hair of someone who won't hold still, but trying to get snot, and food out and keep it out of her eyes was finally too much for me. Part of me feels guilty for this - so I apologize to any of you who think it was a horrible thing to do, but my sanity required it.
David and I are going out to eat tonight with Curt and Renee. We are going to a special restautant in Albany called Sybaris Bistro. They change their menu every month and several people I know have been there and say it is really good. Lenore is going to come watch Alexa for us.

Another day another post.

Alexa loves the camera now. It is hard to take a picture of her because she keeps getting closer and closer. Alexa holding Curious George and reading a Curious George book. We just can't get enough of that monkey around here.

Well DH finished the taxes last night and we fortunately do not owe any money despite his dire prognostications.

Today I started the potty training protocol provided by Alexa's teacher. For two weeks we check the diaper every hour and record the status. I think this is supposed to help us figure out what times of the day we should put her on the potty. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

I also pulled out my Icarus shawl knitting project again. This is a lace shawl that I have started and pulled out twice already. I am determined to finish it eventually because it will be really pretty when it is done.

I finished it!

I am very excited to have finally finished my shrug. It took long time for some reason, but I really like it. The yarn is not itchy even though it is wool, and it is very comfy.
Other than that - the most interesting news of late is kind of gross. Alexa pooped in the bath last night. Not a couple of nice hard poops, but runny, dissolved into the water kind. Anyway - that is enough detail.
We went to Eugene Saturday to see Grandma Penny and help her get her new laptop up and running.
Tonight I made Mexican Chicken Soup from a Barefoot Contessa cookbook. It is the same thing as Tortilla Soup and was really really yummy. Unfortunately it was time consuming to make. It did make a huge pot of soup though, so I think it was worth it. If anyone wants the recipe, let me know.
